Equine Bowen Therapy
"When a horse and rider are in balance, the horse moves easily and freely, the rider sits effortlessly poised, the rider and horse blend into one so completely that it becomes impossible to distinguish which one is guiding the other." Sally.A.Tottle - Body Sense
In an ideal world all of our horses would move in the manner described adjacent when ridden. However, due to a variety of reasons such as injury, disease, poorly fitting tack or rugs, stiffness due to age or restrictions caused by conformation or the rider this is not always the case.
The range of movement within a muscular-skeletal frame may vary from easy and comfortable, through some restriction and mild discomfort to lameness and/or great discomfort.
Once a body becomes unbalanced or even out of alignment, it may continue to function adeqauately, but not necessarily at its best.
With a minor imbalance, the body can learn to adapt itself, putting unaccustomed strain and pressure on another part of the body, in order to "save" the part that feels uncomfortable.
If this state of imbalance is left unresolved, a gradual deterioration will occur and consequently, serious physical symptoms will develop, and pain inevitably will be the outcome.
Equine Bowen Therapy promotes healing, pain relief and energy rebalancing thereby enabling the horse to self heal for optimum health and function.
Although conformational defects and conditions such as arthritis cannot be removed, with regular treatments of Equine Bowen Therapy the horse's range of movement can be optimised as the muscle tension due to the horse compensating can be released and the horse kept in balance as much as possible. Many older horses that have been retired due to stiffness have returned to gentle hacking following treatment with Equine Bowen Therapy.
As Equine Bowen Therapy is a holistic treatment, practitioners are trained to look at all aspects of the horse's environment, such as the fit of the tack, shoeing, teeth etc.
Equine Bowen Therapy allows the horse to perform his best for his rider. Likewise, by addressing any muscular stiffness or imbalance in the rider, with the Bowen Technique, the horse will appreciate a balanced weight on his back! Any correction of a horse's problem may not hold unless the rider is in complete structural balance. All Equine Bowen Therapists are also qualified human Bowen Therapists.
Equine Bowen Therapy is not a substitute for veterinary health care and it is also necessary to obtain your vets consent to any Equine Bowen treatment.
